When I finished painting these two paintings, I assumed they were two different paintings. But I remembered that they started the same, based on the same observation about Shanghai. Only later did I realize that one was about Shanghai during the day, the dull concrete, dusty facades, and ubiquitous air conditioners. The other was the same city lit up and mesmerizing, the lights danced.
