Looking at War and Conflict

EMS Take 1 Art Series - August 2017

A few days before the 2017 Seattle Art Fair, Eric Minh Swenson visited me in my West Seattle studio. He arrived at a time when the studio was filled with works looking at war and conflict from the Vietnam War up to present day. Many of the paintings and drawings include references to helicopters and the landscapes and machines of war. This look inside my studio also provides a good insight into my restricted color palette and use of color as a signifier of emotion and figuration.

During filming, and unbeknownst to me at the time, a small plane crashed in the water of Seattle’s Puget Sound less then a mile from my studio. Luckily, both passengers escaped and swam to shore. Listen for helicopters flying to the rescue scene throughout the video.
