Looking at War and Conflict

EMS Take 1 Art Series - August 2017

In the summer of 2017, Eric Minh Swenson visited my West Seattle studio. My studio was filled with works looking at war and conflict from the Vietnam War up to the present day. Many of the paintings and drawings include helicopters and the landscapes and machines of war. This look inside my studio provides a good insight into my restricted color palette and use of color as a signifier of emotion and figuration.

During filming, neither Eric nor I knew that a small plane had crashed nearby into Seattle’s Puget Sound, less than a mile away. Luckily, both passengers escaped and swam to shore. Listen for helicopters flying to the rescue.
